You are invited to come and join us at the Bee garden at Botanika.

The aim of Bee garden project is to increase public awareness of the needs of bees and to demonstrate how anyone can make their garden more bee friendly. We want to show that bee gardens are not just attractive to bees but to other pollinators and humans too! The bee garden started in April 2019, and last year the bees produced 60kg of honey!

We will be working on the following:

·       Propagating and planting more mixed species for the hedges which are planted on three sides of the garden to create shelter from the wind and to encourage wildlife.

·        Weaving more hazel from another garden and this has been used so far to create the back of a seating area and to create a division between the wild garden and the ‘English Garden’

·       We will be creating more paths, planting shrubs, dividing and planting perennials and direct sowing annuals

·       We will talk about the pollinating plants that have been planted in the Bee garden.

Kate will give a tour of the field where she runs her edible flower business, Botanika.

There will be an opportunity to find out more about edible flowers, herbs, and cut flowers.

Please contact us to let us know whether you are coming, and we will send you instructions on how to get to the field. Don’t forget to wear warm waterproof clothing if it is cold, boots, gardening gloves and if you have a fork and a trowel please bring them.

An open weekend at Botanika is planned from 4th – 6th June 2021 from when the public can visit and learn about the bee hives on site from our bee keepers.
